BORREGO SPRINGS HIGH FOOTBALL TEAM EARNS UNDEFEATED LEAGUE TITLE

In a valiant display of teamwork and skill, the Borrego Springs High School football team ended the 2018 season with a record of 6 - 0, making them the undefeated champions of the Citrus 8-man league. The Borrego Springs School District is proud of our Rams and their efforts to work hard, be disciplined and fight to keep hold of their undefeated status in the league.

Led by coach Tim White, the Rams went into the final league championship game with 5 wins, and 0 losses in the Citrus League. They had their work cut out for them as they took on the St. Joseph Academy Crusaders, who were also 5 - 0 in the league. The crusaders came to battle and battle they did! Coach White commented saying, “It was crazy. It was a hard fought battle. They came out to play trying to fight for that league championship.” A valiant effort, but the Rams pulled ahead and defeated the Crusaders 67 - 32, earning that long awaited title of “League Champs”. The last time the Rams were crowned League Champions was in 2014 with an undefeated record of 10 - 0. The BSUSD appreciates all the hard work, time and effort the coaching staff and players put into their sport and the pride they take in representing the district.

In a recent interview with Coach Tim White, he talks about the struggles and victories of small school athletics and how he is representing Borrego Springs Schools as the Southern Conference President and a member of the Coordinating Council at the California Interscholastic Federation San Diego Section (CIFSDS), how the plight of small school athletics has “been both challenging and rewarding.”

Coach White explains, “It’s a balancing act between fighting for equality and equity while understanding realistic expectations of our athletic programs.  We all want the best opportunities for success for our student/athletes regardless of where they live and go to school.

"We have made great strides in providing those opportunities for success for our schools by changing how our divisions are determined and by increasing the number of divisions.  We have gone from determining our divisions by enrollment to determining our divisions based on a weighted power ranking system. Our section schools are now placed in divisions based on a weighted three year ranking which has allowed some of our more successful programs to move up into higher divisions while allowing some of our smaller programs the opportunity to make the playoffs and play for a CIFSDS Championship.  Along with the new power ranking system, we have also added divisions to increase the number of opportunities per sport for our schools. We now have an Open Division for the best of the best in the section and a lower division per sport. This has provided two additional playoffs and thus two more CIFSDS Championships per sport.”

Borrego School district is proud to have Coach White, and others, fighting for our Athletics programs and making such monumental strides.White concludes by saying, “Representing our school’s plight is a passion as I want to see all our small schools raise banners in their gyms just like the big schools do!”

Borrego Springs High School has many other fantastic sports programs to offer, such as: Baseball, Softball, boys and girls Basketball, boys and girls Soccer, Golf and Volleyball.
