A decades-old concept of categorizing and analyzing Asian economies and equities that puts Japan in a class of its own is fast losing relevance, experts said. The idea of "Asia ex-Japan" traces its roots back to the 1980s and 1990s, when the country was far and away the dominant player in the region.
