Fifth Circuit refuses to extend protections to transgender and sexual orientation under Title VII

Three federal circuit courts of appeals across the country have ruled during the past two years that Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act protects employees from discrimination based on sexual orientation and transgender status. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit unanimously rejected the opportunity to join that trend.
