EU top diplomat says Europe will try to make sure 'escalation is avoided' between US, Iran

The European Union's top diplomat, Federica Mogherini, insisted the world's largest trading bloc has a crucial role in the diffusing of military tensions between the United States and Iran, after the U.S. Defense Department insisted that an American surveillance drone shot down by an Iranian projectile in the Gulf region on Wednesday was operating over international waters.
