New Delhi, Jul 17, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - Advocate Ishanee Sharma is raising her voice against the scenario prevailing in the country and the way streets of the nation are witnessing self-proclaimed protectors of the Hindu religion is the rage. She is keen on spreading knowledge about the history and gist of the religion which is much talked about. "The protectors who have come to fore, sensing some unprecedented danger to the religion, look confident that the religion that has endured years of invasion and foreign rule needs to be protected now. It's to them I call out and they should first know the religion they are fighting for, or fighting against," said leading Advocate.

Ishanee Sharma while sharing her views on Hinduism and Hindutva, the two correlated topics being debated at length in the country, said "The term Hindu or any reference to it has never been found in any ancient epic literature, be it religious-like Vedas, mythological like Purana, Ramayana, or Mahabharata, and philosophical like Gita and as one can trace down in history 'Hindu' as a term was brought in by someone from the army of Alexander the great, to refer to the people living on the southern side of the river Shindhu (Indus).

She further elaborates, "Hindutva is more political in meaning, connotation, and emphasis. With 78 per cent Hindu population, the pro-Hindu agenda of various political organisations are very effectively transmitted to the electorate through massive propaganda of Hindutva which very precisely means that anything even remotely linked to Hindu belief or practice is holier than thou and must be adhered to." She said, "Political appeal of Hindutva is so tense that every political party be it secular, leftist, or nationalist, resort to soft Hindutva, and restrain from saying anything that hurts Hindu sentiment."

Giving her point of view on religio-political nexus Ishanee Sharma said, "The protagonists of Hindutva aim at capturing political power through constitutional means and simultaneously establishing a social system with Hindu-only practices and customs. At times they align Indian nationalism with Hindu pride."

Swami Vivekananda had once said, "The crux of religion is not in the values preached by its followers but in the conduct of its acolytes. On similar lines, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India had said, "Hinduism is wholly free from the strange obsession of some faiths that the acceptance of a particular religious metaphysics is necessary for salvation, and non-acceptance thereof is a heinous sin meriting eternal punishment in hell. "Hinduism is democratic in attitude and suggests a pluralistic and diversified society with due respect to opposing views. Hindutva, on the other hand, believes in a monolithic society with a clear domination of Hindu religious practices, customs, and traditions", added Ishanee Sharma.

"Hinduism encompasses Much More Than Spirituality and the tolerance Hinduism teaches is the pillar this country rests on and this shouldn't change. There is no evidence in the religion that can suggest that there is any authority anywhere that can renounce a person living or dead, from being a Hindu," she said adding that the diabolic nature of the new branch of Hinduism that leans towards Hindutva are polluting the elixir we are all feeding on for centuries. According to Rig Veda, "The bewildering diversity of Hindu belief--theistic, atheistic and agnostic --rests on a solid unity, Ekamsatya, Viprabahudavadanti.

The religion Hinduism has seen a maximum number of reformatory movements. Charvaks rejected many of the standard religious conceptions of Hindus, Buddhists and Jains, such as an afterlife, reincarnation, samsara, karma and religious rites. "They were critical of the Vedas, as well as Buddhist scriptures. An important landmark in the cultural history of medieval India was the silent revolution in society brought about by a galaxy of socio-religious reformers, a revolution known as the Bhakti Movement. The Bhakti poets as well as the Charvaks have been an inseparable part of our culture, and will continue to be," said Ishanee Sharma adding that Hinduism's progressive and dynamic nature is a lesson for the religions of the world. It counts Buddha and Mahavira, both of whom took different paths whereas religion is concerned, a part of its own clan, how else would you define inclusiveness?
