Australian travel startup Rome2rio unveils their interactive map of all the ‘Not Spots’ of the world–a list of destinations that serve as an alternative to where everyone's going these days.

Rome2rio is an Australian travel startup designed to help travellers get from point A to B with millions of multi-modal routes through the use of trains, buses, ferries and flights. Rome2rio currently utilizes 364 train operators, 3,328 bus operators, 531 ferry operators and 670 airlines to help travellers find the best route depending on their travel preferences. Users enter their current and target destination and the system will automatically calculate several different paths using different modes of transportation. Postcodes are also supported for more precise journeys.
Their recently revealed ‘Not Spots’ map aims to help travellers explore lesser-known destinations that are not overcrowded. Instead, the focus is on alternate travel spots across the globe such as quiet beaches or different angles of iconic skylines. It gives travellers new and authentic travel experiences without the tourist crowds.
The map is interactive, allowing users to pan across the world map and zoom into locations marked by Rome2rio. Once a spot on the map is clicked, it directs the user down the page to the entry related to the destination. They are organized into categories such as ‘Adventure & Outdoors’ or ‘Beach’ and each location has a small description of what makes it a great alternative holiday destination.
Together with their easy-to-use route planner, Rome2rio hopes to energize the travel market with their ‘Not Spots’ interactive map and bring more attention to lesser-known holiday destinations that serve as fantastic alternatives to existing holiday destinations. Rome2rio also includes support for finding car rentals and hotels to make planning for a holiday even easier and less stressful.
