Temple University will host the first Metro Fest

Phildelphia, Oct 16, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - When it comes to diversity in eSports, the numbers don't lie. Although minorities make up more than half of video game consumers in the US, the industry significantly lacks diversity across both gender and race. Underrepresented categories include professional gamers, eSports scholarship recipients, competition event organizers, gaming software engineers and video game developers, to name just a few. One company is doing its very best to change that with a creative blend of digital competition, live-music and tech-based entertainment. The Metro Sports and Entertainment Group, in collaboration with SAP. Microsoft, and Monster Energy Drink announces the inaugural Metro Fest Esports and Live Music College Tour, kicking off at Temple University in Philadelphia, Sunday, Oct. 20th.

The Metro Fest is not only driving awareness in esports but using a live-entertainment platform that includes high-profile music artists and influencers to excite technology, gaming and music fans alike, no matter their game preference, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation often guilty of segregating an enthusiastic fanbase.

"Esports is the fastest growing sport in the world but often considered a toxic environment, especially for women and people of color when streaming and competing," said Shaon Berry, Metro CEO & Founder. "We intend to change that and are so excited to partner with SAP, known worldwide for their enterprise application software and services, but also for their outstanding work embracing the power of diversity, with employees across the globe representing more than 150 nationalities. Our goal is to create an immersive entertainment experience that feels like a welcome place for everyone.

SAP is the market leader in enterprise application software, helping companies of all sizes and in all industries run at their best. As the title sponsor for Metro's Technology Expo, this is the latest effort by SAP to ensure a strong focus on diversity and inclusion in corporate recruiting, leveraging eSports and The Metro Fest as another opportunity to connect a diverse group of college students to potential careers in STEM. "I am diversifying SAP's methodology to diversify our results impacting people of color in technology through talent acquisition and supplier diversity" said Ms. Margot Goodson, CPA North America Diversity & Inclusion Lead for SAP.

According to Amazon's Twitch, the gaming industry's largest and most popular live-stream network, of its nearly (15) Million daily users, a staggering (27%) reported encountering racial or gender bullying. The Metro Fest is a hybrid focus on inclusion, welcoming everyone that enjoys urban music and video games, the nation's most popular music genre and amateur competition platforms.

As esports continues to grow into a multi-billion-dollar industry, organizations are now creating solutions and partnerships that will support diversity and inclusion, while promoting awareness that video gaming is so much bigger than merely playing from the comfort of one's home. On a broader scale, it is now creating opportunities for those who look for success in this new world of social gaming. The Metro Fest Esports & Live Music Tour will set the pace for multiple esports and live entertainment events hosted by colleges and universities throughout the country in both 2019 and 2020. Metro believes that esports is more than just the "new cool thing to do," it's also the future of tech-based academic and career opportunities.

Co-hosted by comedian Cole Cosby, and Shade 45 and Philly's Boom 103.9's DJ Caesar, the event will host a video game tournament called: Last Man Standing, "Mortal Kombat 11," where enthusiasts will play for cash and scholarship prizes. Aspiring technologists will also have the chance to hear directly from Ms. Goodson, during her "Talent Talk" session, where she will discuss the initiatives that helped SAP become an organization ranked among the best places to work in the world and detail the company's commitment to identifying diverse professional talent. In addition, attendees will enjoy special live-music performances by emerging artists Abigail Furr, and Camden New Jersey's own Porta Rich. The event is highlighted with a special performance by hip-hop sensation YBN Almighty Jay from the world-famous YBN Rap Crew, well known for a meeting while playing XBOX.
