Porsche and Volkswagen restoration shop Airkooled Kustoms has entered the FinishMaster’s First Annual Hood Master Challenge competition for refinish professionals. Airkooled Kustoms will join other competitors who are submitting their automotive art for judges by the June 26, 2020 submission deadline.
The team received a mini hood from FinishMaster and had 30 days to create their artwork. The original deadline was extended due to the COVID-19 lockdowns. After collecting all submissions at the FinishMaster’s Indianapolis headquarters, industry expert judges will determine the winners, including overall best submission, best technical skill, and crowd favorite. Prizes include professional spray paint guns and more than $3,000 in cash prizes.
Along with their hood art submission, Airkooled Kustoms must provide a list of products they used when creating the artwork. Their finished hood design will be part of an exhibit in Indianapolis on a date to be determined.
“It’s a lot of fun for our team to be part of this Hood Master Challenge,” said Airkooled Kustoms Founder and Owner, Eric “Spook” LeClair. “Metal is our medium, and nothing thrills us quite like being able to create one-of-a-kind automotive art. While we specialize in high-end classic VW and Porsche restorations, this contest has been a chance to really get our creative juices flowing and think outside-the-box.”
Airkooled Kustoms provides end-to-end Volkswagen restorations, repairs, maintenance, interiors, and bodywork. The shop is equipped for standard and custom work on air-cooled Volkswagen and Porsche engines, transmissions, mechanical, electrical, wheels, and high-end restorations.
