Last night at The Grand, Clapham fans dug deep for Grand Aid to save what could be the beginning of the end for British culture, music and the Clapham Grand.
London, Jun 26, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Under threat of closure, the venue has hosted some fantastic names over the years, many industry music legends including Oasis, The Kinks, Muse, Chuck Berry, The Verve and many more, breaking their performance teeth on the stage at the Grand. But as COVID bites, demands for £50k rent a month are hard-hitting with all events cancelled for the foreseeable future.
But, yesterday a virtual three-hour concert organised by The Grand, Clapham, Manager, Ally Wolf showed how passionate people are about the venue and the threat of its closure. "We asked, and they came. Artists performed without a second thought and amazing fans donated over £19,000 with over five thousand households tuning in live last night and an incredible 67,000 organic views of the online concert since. It's amazing how people are happy to get involved and offer their support; it reconfirms that there are so many good people in the world. We can't thank those that supported or donated enough."
On the night, viewers watched @BillyBragg, Gerry from @SixNationState, @FrankTurner, @Beanstoast and Ciara Haidar perform to an empty venue, streamed live online to over five thousand homes. Fans shared their stories of The Grand and the bands involved; one fan shared that she "met her husband at The Grand" and another hailed the venue for "kicking off our Glastonbury weekend in style."
But the journey doesn't stop there, as Ally continues "We still need to raise so much more to keep this beautiful, historical building running and have a host of events planned in the coming months. Our next event is The Grand Virtual Circus on 29th June and will be bursting with three hours of non-stop circus acts streamed live to homes across the country."
