The popularity of vegan leather options has continued to grow in recent years, and it looks as if it will continue that trend. While this is continuing, there is some question on what is next for the rice vegan leather and Asif Ali Gohar. If the business continues to expand, he will be faced with remaining true to the one product he has been producing or expanding into new alternatives and perhaps new materials. We met with the man and some of his managing team to learn about what is next and how they plan to grow into the new season.
In our meeting we asked about a few different aspects of the business. We discussed any plans to move into a new material and if they have found any other raw materials that they plan to introduce. This was met with some excited responses and seemed to really animate the team. These are clearly people who are invested in and are looking forward to improving manufacturing for many different industries and not only for this one product. While we promised not to mention what material is being investigated, we can say that people are sure to be surprised at the next version of vegan leather.
We also addressed how they will be approaching the process in the future. It seems that they original procedures are working, and they are being scaled successfully for the larger amounts to keep up with the demand, however, there are some difficulties here and they are certainly making some adjustments to improve the results. Along with trying these new raw materials and learning how they work and respond; they have discovered that there may need to be a very different approach to the new material. What they have learned with the process for rice will work, however it does not create the same quality and there are definitely some changes that are needed. We will see in the next few years if they need an entirely new process or if they can make adjustments on how they are already doing things. They also plan to try rice leather with any new procedures to see if they can maintain one set of procedures across all materials for the best quality.
As for what is next for Asif Ali Gohar himself, he was pretty open to sharing some new ideas and delegating more to his team. It seems he has a great idea on how to expand the product line, and there are some hints at moving forward with adapting the process to work with other industries, perhaps even building a complimentary business that helps other factories use some of the theories and methods that he has created. Perhaps we will see a consulting career emerge at some point, as he and his team help others streamline their process and reduce their waste.
