Aquafil CEO says materials "will matter more and more" in the future

Aquafil (OTCQX:ECNLF) CEO Giulio Bonazzi speaks to Thomas Warner about where the company and its pioneering nylon regeneration technology fit into a global economy increasingly interested in circularity and sustainability.

Aquafil specialises in producing synthetic fibres and polymers, with a particular focus on nylon, or polyamide six, known for its durability and recyclability. Bonazzi explained that the current phase of the company's journey began about 20 years ago when rising oil prices made it clear that they needed to change their approach.

Today, Aquafil collects waste materials such as fishing nets, carpets, and plastic scraps from around the world and transforms them into high-quality fibres. Their major customers include leading carpet companies, automotive producers, and luxury fashion brands. Bonazzi emphasises Aquafil's commitment to sustainability and circularity, aiming to become a 100% sustainable company through recycling technologies and emerging innovations.

He also clarified that Aquafil is a materials company, providing fibres for textiles and carpets, and stressed that materials "will matter more and more" in the future.
