TranSwitch Devices Enhance OA&M Functions in NEC's SpectralWave DW4200 ROADM System

TranSwitch® Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC), a leading provider of high-speed semiconductor solutions for voice, data and video communications, today announced that NEC Corporation is deploying TranSwitchs EtherMap®-3 Pt, PHAST®-3N and TEMx8TM devices on NECs SpectralWave DW4200 ROADM System to support the Optical Supervisory Channel. NEC has delivered this solution to a major wireless operators network.

SpectralWave DW4200 is a programmable and cost-effective network platform, which can be easily adapted to satisfy future operator bandwidth demands, and it overcomes the design limitations of conventional dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems. With the TranSwitch devices, the SpectralWave system can support the optical supervisory channel in a secure, efficient and robust manner providing lower overall cost of ROADM operations, maintenance and provisioning.

The TranSwitch has provided us with a cost-effective, and fully standards-compliant solution, said Mr. Takahashi, Manager of Component Engineering at NEC Corporation. TranSwitch supplied us with a complete, scalable and modular multi-service solution comprising the EtherMap-3Pt, PHAST-3N and TEMx8 devices, as well as the complete suite of APIs and software sample applications for OAM&P to accelerate our time-to-market. TranSwitch also was able to provide us the solutions to our needs, including in-depth technical support, in a timely fashion.

TranSwitchs Any-Service-Any Port (ASAP) solution fully addresses all NEC requirements in a cost-effective manner while providing the best performances in the market, said Radu Iorgulescu, Director of Product Management for TranSwitch. The seamless inter-working of our devices, combined with uniform software API solution, allowed NEC to significantly reduce the time to system deployment.

The PHAST-3 family of devices is ideally suited for OEMs who need to reduce their time-to-market and expand their design options and opportunities in developing multi-service access and transport products. The PHAST-3 family is designed to eliminate the multiple devices previously required to implement complex SONET/SDH termination applications. The PHAST-3N supports TDM while the PHAST-3P supports ATM and PPP on the terminal side and the OC-3 or STM-1 on the line side. With their on board RISC processors used for SONET/SDH overhead processing, these products enable designers to use these VLSI solutions for a wide range of applications with the confidence that potential standards changes or special purpose applications can be accommodated in the future.

The EtherMap-3Pt supports eight 10/100 Ethernet ports or one Gigabit Ethernet port to deliver a broad range of both SONET/SDH and Ethernet processing functionality. By incorporating both the standardized link layer framing protocols, GFP (Generic Framing Procedure), LAPS (Link Access Procedure for SDH) and LAPF (Link Address Procedure Framed-mode) and the virtual concatenation (VCAT) standards combined with LCAS (Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme), the EtherMap-3 Pt allows service providers and end customers to meet the demand for efficient and flexible Ethernet transport.

The TEMx8 is a mapping device for DS1s or E1s into VT/TU tributaries incorporating a dual bus architecture with a high-performance patented digital de-synchronizer. This is effective in diverse SONET/SDH network transport or access termination environments such as ring-based add/drop nodes, radio network controllers (RNC) or wireless base stations, digital cross connects and terminal or metro optical access multiplexers with OC-3/STM-1 through OC-48/STM-16 interfaces. The TEMx8 is characterized by its adherence to stringent ITU/ETSI/ANSI standards for SONET/SDH overhead byte processing and signal jitter wander/attenuation. The TEMx8 supports protection switching and redundancy in various dual ring schemes.
