BroadVision-Powered City Government Site to Serve as Model for the Netherlands

BroadVision, Inc., (OTCBB:BVSN), a global provider of strategic e-business solutions, today announces that the Municipality of Tilburg (Gemeente Tilburg) in the Netherlands goes live with its innovative site, www.tilburg.nl, that will serve 202,000 city residents. Built on a foundation of the BroadVision® Business Agility Suite solution as the tool for configuring web-enabled processes, the site enables citizens to transact much routine administrative business online, enhances communication between the city government and the citys inhabitants, and adds to Tilburgs reputation as one of the most technologically advanced cities in the country.

The site has a simple structure and extensive personalization capabilities. Users can visit a WebShop to request passports, permits and other city documents and can use the sophisticated search engine to find all documents of any kind (.pdf, .txt, .ppt, etc.) on the site containing specific text. In the near future each user will be able to create a personal internet page (PIP) and elect to receive news feeds, RSS feeds, Tilburg-specific news, on-line videos of meetings, Tilburg On-Line TV and other information streams.

Our goal is to create a leading-edge site that our citizens want to visit frequently and that can serve as a model site for other city governments in the Netherlands, says Michel Blezer, Engineer and IT Advisor, Municipality of Tilburg, the Netherlands. BroadVision solutions are helping us do that by making it easy to build a very stable site with extensive personalization capabilities, micro-sites, a powerful search function, and effortless scalability.

In the Netherlands, government organizations are regularly assessed; and a ranking of Best Governmental sites is produced (www.overheid.nl). At the start of the project, Tilburgs public internet was in 60th position; and their strategic aim was to establish a position in the Top 10. On launching the new www.tilburg.nl site, Gemeente Tilburg climbed the rankings to 14th spot and then, one week later, attained 5th position. Being the 6th biggest city of the Netherlands, this is an excellent achievement; and Tilburgs priority is to retain this status and improve in the near future.

We congratulate the municipality of Tilburg on building a site that showcases the ability of a city portal to enhance communication among citizens and increase participation in city government, says Dr. Pehong Chen, President and CEO of BroadVision. The site also showcases the power of BroadVision solution to connect site visitors to personalized information, resources, and business processes and to support collaboration through self-serviced micro-sites.

About the Municipality of Tilburg

Since the 1990s, the city of Tilburg in the Netherlands has been managed, to the greatest extent possible, as a business concern. For example, public services are actually subsidiary companies of the local authority, and have to adhere to yearly contracts drawn up in the form of operating budgets. Major events throughout the year, a bustling downtown packed with bars and restaurants, large groups of students, and the beautiful surrounding countryside make Tilburg an agreeable city to live in or visit. Tilburg is situated at the center of the province of North Brabant, close to the Belgian border.
