Web Service Shows US Airways Aborted Route Over New York City

Let's hear it for technology! As you've no doubt heard and read by now, US Airways Flight 1549 hit a bird and went down in a "splash landing" in the Hudson River off Manhattan. Fortunately, it did not break up and everybody made it off fine (and a little wet). A commenter at Reddit did the obvious thing and checked it out on live flight-tracking site FlightAware. I think this little map shows just one more reason to give this flight crew a damn medal. Looks like he was headed back to La Guardia, but in a move that probably saved over a hundred lives, judged that they wouldn't make it there and put it belly down in the river. I love that this rich and valuable information is available to us, although perhaps they should have a more accurate descriptor for the flight's status than "arrived." Click through for the full pic.
