Kaplan College Opens in Chula Vista

Kaplan Higher Education has opened a new Kaplan College campus in Chula Vista, which began classes today. The school, located at 555 Broadway in Chula Vista, will help serve the community’s needs for career-focused education and provide local employers with skilled graduates in high-demand fields. The Chula Vista campus is Kaplan Higher Education’s twelfth campus in the state of California.

“We are excited to extend our foundation for high-quality educational services, strong curriculum and personal approach to students here in Chula Vista and the surrounding communities,” said Beth Hollenberg, chief operating officer of Kaplan Higher Education Campuses. “The Chula Vista area is an important community for us, and Kaplan is committed to offering educational opportunities in some of the most in-demand employment fields in the state.”

Led by Dennis Manzo, president of Kaplan College, the campus opens by offering one associate degree program in criminal justice, with classes starting Dec. 2. Beginning Dec. 9, the campus will offer two diploma programs including medical assistant and medical billing and coding. The campus will begin its second associate degree in medical practice management in February of 2010. These programs are designed to aid students in obtaining the knowledge, technical skills and work habits required to pursue a wide variety of entry-level positions in their field of study.

“Opening another Kaplan campus in California will allow us to better serve local residents who seek quality, career-focused training,” said Manzo. “We offer a unique integration of curriculum with professional skill development to empower students to achieve their life-long personal and professional goals.”

Manzo has more than 11 years of experience in educational leadership positions. Most recently, he was the president of the Kaplan College Riverside campus. Previously, he served as the executive director for the Kaplan College Palm Springs campus. He also was the director of admissions at Software Education of America for seven years.

The college’s nearly 18,000 square-foot facility features 11 classrooms, which include three computer labs, two medical labs, five lecture rooms, the Firearm Training Simulator room that accompanies the criminal justice program and a learning resource center for student research. Conveniently located in Chula Vista Center Mall, the campus is between Interstate 5 and the 805 Freeway and surrounded by retail shops and restaurants. The campus also is easily accessible via public transportation.

Kaplan College offers each student job search assistance through its career services department and tutoring at no extra charge. The Kaplan College Chula Vista campus is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). ACCSC is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education.
