The Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) and the Esports & Online Gaming Association (ESOGA) proudly announce a strategic collaboration that brings together traditional sports and esports to enrich soccer experiences for youth. This collaboration signifies a groundbreaking approach to help increase the scope of competitive soccer across the state.
OYSA, a prominent organization dedicated to serving and enhancing the soccer community in Oregon, governs and represents youth players, coaches, and administrators across the state. With a commitment to providing diverse programs for boys and girls aged 5-19, OYSA emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Recognizing the evolving landscape of sports and the increasing popularity of esports, OYSA selected to collaborate with ESOGA, a national leader in youth esports programs. The collaboration aims to create a bridge between traditional sports and the dynamic world of esports, offering a new and innovative platform for youth soccer enthusiasts.
One of the key initiatives resulting from this collaboration is the creation of new esports tournaments and live streams. OYSA’s inaugural esports tournament, the Oregon Rumble on July 28th, 2024, will provide young soccer enthusiasts the opportunity to showcase their skills in soccer-themed video games, fostering healthy competition and camaraderie in the virtual arena, all while having their gameplay live streamed to YouTube, Twitch, and Twitter.
Simon Date, Executive Director of OYSA announced the collaboration stating "We are extremely excited to be collaborating with ESOGA to offer this new program to our community. Esports and online gaming is a huge industry and one that 90% of the kids playing in our leagues are playing in some way at home. Adding additional programming for our members to compete in is something we are very excited about as we look towards the future."
Nate Parent, CEO of ESOGA, added "We are thrilled to join forces with the Oregon Youth Soccer Association. This new collaboration further expands our commitment to meet the evolving interests of today's youth, and creates new bridges in supporting youth in traditional sports and esports alike.”
Leaders from both organizations anticipate that this collaboration will not only enhance the soccer experiences for youth but also contribute to the overall growth and evolution of sports engagement in the digital age.
