The Department of Labor and Employment Secretary, Patricia Sto. Tomas ordered today all striking workers of PLDT to return to work, except those who were terminated due to redundancy.
PLDT management was directed to accept the striking workers under the same terms and conditions prevailing prior to the strike, as both parties were enjoined to cease and desist from committing any act that might worsen the situation.
The memorandum takes effect 24 hours upon receipt of the order which was served at 5:00 p.m., January 6, 2003.
The decision took into consideration PLDTs operations as crucial to day to day life, and vital towards the furtherance of trade, commerce, and industry as well as state security.
The order also certified the labor dispute to the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) for compulsory arbitration.
