Kinetic Announces First Anniversary of its Free Digital Literacy Program

  • Kinetic’s Free Digital Literacy Program celebrates its first year incorporated in five Bullitt County Libraries
  • Since its introduction, 30,000 community members have had access to 12 free videos of digital literacy resources

Fiber internet provider Kinetic, a leader in residential and small business high-speed internet, is celebrating its first anniversary of the Digital Literacy Program, which was first offered throughout five Bullitt County libraries. In honor of this anniversary, Kinetic is proud to now offer the free courses to all libraries, schools, colleges, community centers, and other public community partners.

The program includes 12 video courses and offers an opportunity for people of all ages to learn essential computer skills, the fundamentals of programs like Microsoft Office, and daily technology skills. While these courses are offered on library desktops and laptops, the Bullitt County library staff also offer business cards with instructions on how to access the resources via web browser.

“Since the program was introduced, our library employees have helped over 600 members with network access, including introducing members to the [Kinetic] digital literacy program,” said Tara O’Hagan, Bullitt County Library executive director. “The impact the hands-on help provides can be lifechanging for some members who aren’t familiar with the capabilities of the digital world.”

Digital literacy can be pivotal in establishing good habits when engaging in online communication and social media, purchases, and website navigation. In addition to these habits, the courses and skills offered can save users hours when trying to troubleshoot technological issues like reconnecting to Wi-Fi or detecting network concerns.

“We’re proud to continue to partner with the Bullitt County libraries to offer the Digital Literacy Program,” said Stephanie Bell, Kinetic’s vice president of Kentucky government affairs, “The program is meant to offer communities and everyone, of all ages, resources for tools to improve their digital literacy across the county.”

Kinetic’s Digital Literacy Program underscores its commitment to closing the digital divide and creating a better internet experience in the communities it serves. The company created the program to help improve digital equity in the towns it serves, while also continuing a multi-billion-dollar expansion of its fiber-optic network to bring high-speed internet to more unserved, or underserved, homes and small businesses across the US.

The program is free to the public and accessible through the Kinetic Digital Literacy Program website at any time.
