This message is for all Hillshire Brands employees.
Team,
Today we issued a press release announcing that our Board of Directors has agreed to enter into separate discussions with Pilgrims Pride and Tyson Foods with regard to their recent unsolicited proposals. A copy of the press release is attached.
As we enter into discussions with these two companies, it is important to keep in mind that there can be no assurance that any transaction will result from these proposals. One thing is certain however; our focus on our day-to-day responsibilities must remain intact. With one month to go in FY14, we must continue to keep our customers and consumers as our top priority as we work hard to deliver a strong finish for the year.
If you receive any calls from the media or other third parties regarding this situation, please do not respond yourself and forward them on to Jon Harris, chief communications officer, at 312-614-8661 or Mike Cummins, director of corporate communications, at 312-614-8412.
As always, I thank you for your continued hard work and commitment.
Regards,
Sean Connolly
President and Chief Executive Officer
