Lubbock accident lawyers news: In a recent press release, the United States Department of Transportation revealed a new series of public service announcements to warn drivers, especially teenage drivers, about the dangers of distracted driving. The new public service announcements are titled “OMG,” a reference to a popular shorthand text message, and they include imagery related to other popular shorthand text messages, including “L8R” and “LOL.”

The safety campaign is aimed at teenage drivers because they are particularly vulnerable to distracted driving. The campaign will reach teenage drivers by airing the public service announcements in movie theatres and on certain gas pump television screens at high traffic gas stations. The public service announcements are also available on the Department of Transportation’s website, www.distraction.gov.

In 2009, the U.S. Department of Transportation launched a national anti-distracted driving campaign. Since then, it has hosted two national summits, crafted sample legislation for states to use when adopting distracted driving laws, and initiated pilot law enforcement programs. Currently thirty-five states and the District of Columbia have banned text messaging by all drivers. Nine states and the District of Columbia have also banned all hand-held cellular telephone use while driving. (Texas does not enforce a ban on either texting or hand-held telephone use except in school zones.)

Unfortunately, texting and other forms of distracted driving can lead to serious traffic collisions. If you have been hurt in a traffic collision and would like to discuss your options with an Injury Lawyer/ Lubbock Texas personal injury attorney, please call the Lubbock wrongful death lawyer at Fadduol, Cluff & Hardy.
