Medtronic Inc. (NYSE: MDT) will acquire Covidien (NYSE: COV) for a premium of approximately $42.9 billion in cash and stock. Shares of Medtronic fell $1.11 to $59.59 while Covidien stock leaped $14.49 to $86.51.
