The Wall Street Journal reported that Office Depot
Inc. (Nasdaq: ODP) and Staples Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) engaged in advanced
discussions
for a possible merger. Shares of Office Depot surged $1.65 to close at
$9.28 while Staples stock soared $1.87 to close at $19.01.
