Along with the slump in the economy came an unfortunate side-effect. Men began dressing down, way down, and found themselves wearing a lot of tee-shirts, sweats, slouchy jeans, and old athletic wear, even in situations where is isn’t appropriate. But a new trend has been emerging, and men are beginning to pay more attention to the clothes they wear.

“Along with an improved economy comes a new fashion sense for men,” says a spokesman from Michael & David, a Los Angeles men’s fashion designer house that specializes in men’s shirts. “We believe that because American men are once again doing better financially, they want to express that success in their wardrobe, and so you now see the sloppy look taking a backseat to a more affluent type of style. It seems that American men have finally caught up with the European trend of looking your best in all situations. And that, thankfully, puts an end to the slouchy look so many man have worn for too long.”

Even the Wall Street Journal is noticing a change in the way men are dressing. They recently published an article touting the new “smartness” that they see in men’s clothing, even if they were only talking about athletic wear. The WSJ notes that it’s about time men begin to pay attention to their looks again, and are thrilled that men are once again wearing clothes that reek of success, rather than the sloppy, downtrodden look that the bad economy seemed to spur on.

Today’s man on the move is much more likely to seen sporting a new pair of jean with a unique button down shirt but not the button downs of the past. Modern men now wear their shirts with a twist. Some have contrasting collars and cuffs, while others are made from fine Turkish cotton in a variety of modern colors and patterns. In other words, the days of gray sweats and logo tee-shirts are finally over for today’s American man.

“Michael & David predicted this change of style a couple of years ago,” said the spokesman. “But the designers knew that once the economy turned around, it wouldn’t be long before men would want to express their renewed optimism with their wardrobes. And sure enough, as soon as their job prospects, career paths, and finances began to improve, the men no longer wanted to dress as they have for the past few years.” The design house predicts that the trend will continue as the economy continues to improve.
