Varoujan Jewellers, Sydney, Australia’s leading diamond jewellery designer, specialising in GIA certified diamonds and engagement rings, have today announced a new diamond ring called The Maria, which is based on the classic round brilliant diamond design but with a modern twist.
Currently, all round solitaire diamond rings consists of a round diamond set in ring with four or six claws. The Varoujan designed ring has six claws and a band which flares out in opposite direction. The result is a very distinctive and unique design that makes the ring band looks daintier and highlights the centre stone even more.

The six claws used to set the diamond ensures better holding potential and that the stone will never fall out or come loose, compared to most basic solitaire ring which only has four claws. If one of these claws were to break off without the owner knowing about it, there is a greater chance that the diamond will fall out.
The engagement ring presented at their Sydney shop featured a 1.00 carat D colour SI1 quality diamond but can be set with any diamond size and diamond quality. It include options such as choice of ring band from gold, white gold and platinum.
Looking from above, the Maria ring creates the illusion that the round diamond is sitting on the two flared wing-like parts and the eyes are drawn to the stone in the centre.
Sydney jewellery designer, Varoujan said “People still love solitaire settings so I want to give them that design but add something that will make their engagement ring memorable. The flared wings add uniqueness without taking away the timelessness of the solitarie ring”.
For those with a bigger budget, a pink round diamond can be used to really make an impression.
