PowerGenix's Nickel-Zinc Batteries Pass UL Tests Performed by Motorola Product Testing Services

PowerGenix, manufacturer of nontoxic, safe, high performance rechargeable nickel-zinc (NiZn) batteries, today announced it has met Underwriters Laboratories (UL) requirements for household and commercial battery safety and reliability. In testing performed by Motorola Product Testing Services, PowerGenixs NiZn cells passed UL 2054 standard for use as a power source in products in addition to altitude simulation compliance under UL 1642.

Testing under the UL 2054 standard is divided into five main types; electrical, mechanical, battery enclosure, fire exposure and environmental tests. During the examination, Motorola Product Testing Services subjected PowerGenixs cells to shock, vibration, crush, projectile, impact and discharge tests under extreme temperature and cycling conditions to validate performance, safety and robustness. Testing also included short circuit and abnormal charging protocols. In addition, results from UL 1642 testing demonstrated performance and safety for air travel and other low-pressure environments.

Underwriters Laboratories safety standards are recognized as one of the highest safety benchmarks in the world. These tests deliver peace of mind to manufacturers and end-users that PowerGenixs NiZn cells are safe and robust, and affirm reliable interface with AC power sources and UL licensed products, said PowerGenix CEO Dan Squiller.

In addition to meeting UL standards, PowerGenixs batteries have been confirmed by independent third party testing to be compliant with the European Unions Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive, banning heavy metals and toxic substances from new electronic devices. PowerGenix has also been licensed by the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) for participation in its North American collection and recycling program.

PowerGenixs NiZn rechargeable batteries serve as a high-performance replacement for Nickel Metal-Hydride (NiMH) and Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd) rechargeable batteries. Compared to NiMH and NiCd, PowerGenixs NiZn cells offer 30 percent more power while reducing the size, weight and number of cells required for portable power.
