First Annual Bridal Veil Film Festival Debuts Under the Stars

Open Air Cinema, the largest provider of outdoor cinema events, today announced it is hosting the first annual Bridal Veil Film Festival. The festival is a celebration of international cinema, taking place over three weeks from September 12-28 near the base of the picturesque Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon, Utah. All proceeds will benefit the Rwanda Cinema Center.

Americans have two great passions, the outdoors and movies, said Stuart Farmer, CEO of Open Air Cinema. We are bringing them together to support a great cause and to celebrate a series of beautiful and thought-provoking films. The movies will be shown outdoors, under the stars near the base of Bridal Veil Falls. It would be difficult to find a more beautiful setting for the debut of this new film festival.

The projectionist running the Bridal Veil Film Festival is from a U.N. refugee camp on the border of Rwanda. His organization will be the main benefactor for the fundraising efforts. Also short films from the Rwanda Cinema Center will be screened at the event.

Over three weekends in September, the festival will screen 11 films from almost as many countries. Each night of the festival, the films will show at 8 p.m. The schedule is as follows:

Sept 12 - Life is Beautiful (Italy)
Sept 13 - Amelie (France)
Sept 14 - Dreams (Japan)
Sept 18 - Children of Heaven (Iran)
Sept 19 - Cinema Paradiso (Italy)
Sept 20 - Chariots of Fire (England)
Sept 21 - Grizzly Man (USA)
Sept 25 - Wings of Desire (Germany)
Sept 26 - War Dance (Uganda)
Sept 27 - 2001: A Space Odyssey (USA)
Sept 28 - City of God (Brazil)

Tickets may be purchased at the gate for $8 or online at www.bvfilmfest.com. All proceeds from the film festival will be used to provide outdoor cinema equipment for the Rwanda Cinema Center.

Outdoor cinema is an ideal medium for many parts of Africa, especially for Rwanda, Farmer said. The Rwanda Cinema Center showcases the talent of its brilliant filmmakers. With the inflatable screens, projectors, speakers, sound equipment and generators everything is completely transportable. To show a film, they dont have to own the land or build a buildingit can even be set up in an open field.

Open Air Cinema has also worked with Non-Governmental Organizations in Africa such as Film Aid to screen movies as well as AIDS education and womens rights films in remote villages on its inflatable screens that range in size from 10 feet to 40 feet.
