Original Productions, the company behind Discovery Channel’s top hit “The Deadliest Catch”, was awarded the Creative Arts Emmy® for Outstanding Cinematography For Nonfiction Programming. The awards were presented Saturday, September 13, at the NOKIA Theatre.
Original Productions’ President Thom Beers praised his production team as heroes who make his unique brand of programming possible. “It’s awesome that the Television Academy honored the show with this award,” said Beers. “We film heroic stories every day and it’s easy to forget that our camera crews are equally heroic. Shooting on-board a boat in 30 foot waves surrounded by thousand pound crab pots and guys in orange suits is not the best scenario for achieving great lighting, steady shots or perfect framing. Our guys do an amazing job every day and I’m proud of their incredible work.”
Beers, whose success has been noted by Time Magazine and who The New York Times calls a “genre-defining producer,” is already in pre-production on season five for “The Deadliest Catch.” His unique brand of unscripted reality television shows is carried by nine television networks. Audiences consistently tune-in for “Deadliest Catch,” the show the New York Times says has no peer, “Ice Road Truckers” and “Ax Men,” the two top-rated shows airing on History. In broadcast television, NBC ordered 30 hours of programming including post-Olympics favorite “America’s Toughest Jobs.” Featuring engaging personalities in hazardous circumstances, Beers’ top-notch storytelling has garnered 14 Emmy® nominations.
