Meebo Hires Pip Marquez de la Plata as Senior Vice President of Marketing

Meebo, the Webs live communication platform, today announced that Pip Marquez de la Plata has joined the company as Senior Vice President of Marketing. He brings over 20 years of experience in business, marketing, brand strategy and advertising to Meebo. Marquez de la Plata was previously Vice President of Marketing and Brand Strategy for the Entertainment Group at CNET Networks, Inc./CBS Interactive (NYSE: CBS).

Marquez de la Plata will utilize his past experience working with such companies as Mountain Dew, Toyota, Electronic Arts and Gillette to expand Meebos advertising and marketing program.

Prior to CNET Networks, Marquez de la Plata was Director of Account Management at advertising firm J. Walter Thompson and Worldwide Brand Director for Sun Microsystems, Inc. He has worked with companies including, Ford Motor Company, Cox Communications, Nokia, NBC and more. Marquez de la Plata honed his passion for brand building with positions at McCann-Erickson, Anderson & Lembke, Goldberg Moser ONeill and Saatchi & Saatchi.

Announced in July, Meebo Community IM will enable users to sign into their favorite participating online communities and connect instantly with their friends. Launch partners include DanceJam, Flixster, myYearbook, Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Groups AddictingGames, Piczo, SparkArt, Sugar Publishing and Tagged. Together with Meebo, the eight launch partners have an unduplicated global reach of 54.8 million (May 2008) and an unduplicated reach in the US of 23.6 million (June 2008), according to comScore Media Metrix.

Monetization

Meebo launched new ad programs this past June, built around the premise of engagement and sharing. Partners will be sharing in ad revenue derived from new inline ads, called SparkAds, running in Meebo Community IM and Meebo Rooms.
