Gold & Silver U.S. Mint Eagle Coins Available Only 25 More Days - until Dec. 12th

The non-profit American Eagle Foundation announced today that the United States Mint's 2008 Bald Eagle Commemorative Coins continue to be a popular seller, but will only be available for 25 more days.

The gold five-dollar, silver dollar and clad half-dollar coin collection will no longer be sold again by the Mint after December 12, 2008.

The special commemoratives officially celebrate the upcoming 35th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act on Dec. 28th and the bald eagle’s comeback to America’s skies.

"This is the last chance for collectors and investors to order these popular and beautiful precious metal coins from the federal government," said AEF president Al Cecere. "After December 12th, they'll only be available from coin dealers and shopping networks at much higher prices."

A surcharge from the sale of all three legal tender coins benefits a special endowment fund dedicated to protecting America's bald eagles for the future generations. To date, the coins have generated $7 million for that fund, managed by the Dollywood based conservation group.

"They make perfect Christmas and birthday gifts for conservation, outdoor and nature minded people, as well as corporate awards and premiums,” Cecere stated. “They’re also ideal collectibles for eagle lovers and military veterans."

Only about 29,000 gold, 127,000 silver and 436,000 clad coins remain in the limited edition that features natural eagle designs and historic emblems never before available on U.S. coinage. There’s no household order limit.

Orders can be placed online at the United States Mint website and by phone at 800-US-MINT (800-872-6468).

The half-dollar piece, offered for only $8.95 (uncirculated) and $10.95 (proof), features the stately image and name of the famous free-flying educational bald eagle "Challenger" often seen flying during the singing of the Star Spangled Banner at professional and college baseball and football sports events.

"Some coins are already selling on eBay, ShopNBC and Home Shopping Network at double the present government price," said Cecere. "The opportunity to buy them at the lower U.S. Mint prices will soon be gone forever."
