Meebo Aggregates Real-Time Interactions for Friends on MySpace and Facebook

Meebo, the company that enables real-time social interactions, today announced the integration of MySpace and Facebook instant messaging (IM) access into meebo.com. Driven by requests within Meebo’s 40 million-plus user community, today’s announcement makes Meebo the first web application that enables real-time access to the world’s most popular social networks and instant messaging services. MySpace and Facebook users can visit meebo.com and interact with their social network friends in a single interface, side-by-side with instant messaging buddies, no software or downloads required.

The massive reach of MySpace and Facebook, combined with the established instant messaging services, gives Meebo the unprecedented ability to enable real-time social interactions for the majority of US Internet users. In addition, Meebo powers instant messaging for online communities via Meebo Community IM, and real-time access to those networks will also be available via Meebo. A sample of Meebo Community IM partners signed to date include Bleacher Report, Flixster, myYearbook, Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Group’s AddictingGames, OrangeShark, Piczo, PerfSpot, and Sugar Publishing.

“Today’s announcement reflects Meebo’s long-time goal of offering open access to all IM and social networking users, as well as providing them with the best IM experience possible,” said Seth Sternberg, CEO and co-founder, Meebo. “People have friends across a variety of different social networks, and Meebo is a place where they can come for real-time social interactions with these friends, at any time.”

MySpace, the world’s premier social network, has partnered with Meebo to enable real-time social interactions between MySpace users via Meebo. The partnership offers MySpace users the ability to log onto and use MySpaceIM through Meebo in a safe and secure fashion. This collaboration builds on efforts by MySpace to empower social network users and members of MySpace’s global community to take their identity around the Web and extend their social experience Web-wide.

“The Meebo integration provides a new channel for our users to connect and communicate with each other,” said Tom Andrus, senior vice president of product at MySpace. “Integrating with Meebo is a core part of our strategy to facilitate real-time communication between our users and is an example of our commitment to extend users’ ability to access their MySpace network in the ways they choose.”

“Reaching users across multiple social networking platforms has been one of the biggest challenges facing both agencies and advertisers, said Ian Schafer, founder/CEO interactive marketing and advertising agency, Deep Focus. “Meebo’s ability to bring these networks together can help us deliver practical solutions to consumers and cross-platform solutions with scale to clients.”
