Kaiser Permanente to Open Replacement Flagship Hospital in Los Angeles

On the morning of Tuesday, March 31st, Kaiser Permanente is scheduled to open a new state-of-the-art hospital next to its existing flagship Los Angeles Medical Center (LAMC) that has served the metro area and beyond for over 50 years. The $600 million, 400-bed replacement facility on Sunset Boulevard includes the most advanced medical technologies and patient-friendly features to optimize the healing process. The attached embargoed news release provides more detail.

Patients will be moved from the old hospital into the new hospital. Kaiser Permanente staff will videotape the morning move and make tapes available to the media. Due to the seriousness and complexity of this task, media access inside the new hospital is being limited to a narrow time window. Media must arrive between 7:00 and 7:25 a.m. in order to be escorted into the building to film the 4th floor and interview patients, physicians, and executives.

INSTRUCTIONS ON PARKING AND NARROW TIME WINDOW FOR ACCESS:

Access to the new hospital WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE from Barnsdall Avenue on Tuesday morning, March 31st. Media representatives who arrive at the Sunset Boulevard entrance will be re-directed to Barnsdall Avenue.

From the intersection of Sunset and Vermont, go north approximately half a block and turn west onto Barnsdall Avenue. Kaiser Permanente public affairs representatives and/or security will direct media to appropriate parking and to the access point for the hospital during moving day. If there are parking questions, please contact Marie Lemelle 818-912-0014.

Please note that access to the hospital will be limited to those who arrive between 7:00 and 7:25 a.m. and are able to assemble on Barnsdall Avenue. Public affairs representatives will then escort the media into the new building. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but we must limit entry to the hospital to this brief time period.

Those who arrive after 7:25 a.m. may have to wait for an extended period of time to gain access to the hospital.
