ERI’s John S. Shegerian Addresses Local Business and Environmental Issues with Central Valley Business Network

John S. Shegerian, Chairman and CEO of Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the nation’s leading recycler of electronic waste, helped the Central Valley Business Network (CVBN) kick off its launch event with a keynote talk to attending business leaders from the Central Valley of California earlier this month. In his presentation, Shegerian discussed the urgent importance of sustainable practices and the overall value of green businesses in Fresno, California and beyond.

Joined by fellow speakers, Travis Sheridan, Membership Services Director at the Central Valley Business Incubator and Craig Scharton, Director of Downtown and Community Revitalization for the City of Fresno, Shegerian spoke of the need for business leaders in the Central Valley to embrace the “Green is Good” concept, not only to benefit the environment, but also to help with their own bottom lines.

The CVBN was founded earlier this year as an independent briefing and supporting network for valley business leaders and entrepreneurs focused on creating economic development by supporting effective state climate and energy legislation. The group connects Central Valley business leaders to the policy conversation in Sacramento and is designed to provide an efficient way for business people to make a difference in economic development the clean economy way.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be asked to serve as a founding member of the Central Valley Business Network and to speak at this forward-thinking group’s terrific kickoff event,” said Shegerian. “In the Central Valley, we have significant environmental hurdles – air quality, climate change impacts of water availability, and transportation – to overcome. But with these hurdles come exciting opportunities for economic development. The green revolution is not a fad, it is an essential part of the US business infrastructure and very much here to stay. We’re proud of the entrepreneurial and innovative minds of local businesspeople here in the Central Valley – and we look for them to join us in stepping up to accept and meet these challenges head on.”
