Entering Wangwangzhuang Village in Qiaozhuang Town, Boxing County, colorful shrimp ponds reflect the sunlight, and the water’s surface sparkles. In the distance, the rumbling of trucks can be heard as they travel along the smooth, straight roads, delivering nutrient-rich South American white shrimp to countless households.
Recalling the past, lively shrimp would come out of the water, but due to poor road conditions, handling them often resulted in significant losses, causing deep sorrow for shrimp farmers. To prevent the roads from hindering the path to prosperity, Boxing County has focused on addressing the bottlenecks and challenges in rural development, upgrading and transforming 1,073 kilometers of rural roads to high standards. The people can truly enjoy the conveniences of modern “transport networks.” In 2024, the county will launch an integrated public transport project, seamlessly connecting urban and rural public transport services and achieving full public transport integration. There will be 15 public transport routes throughout the county, with a total length of 684.2 kilometers.
The improvement of roads and transport is just a glimpse of the larger picture. In line with the goal of building an innovative, livable, beautiful, resilient, civilized, and smart modern city, Boxing County initiated a three-year urban renewal action plan in 2022. This includes projects like “burying overhead lines,” “pedestrian bridges,” “elevators for cars,” “parks around the city,” and “increased road networks,” concentrating efforts on enhancing the living environment and improving the quality of life for residents. Currently, Boxing is experiencing a “metamorphosis,” focusing on what the people need and allowing the city to grow gracefully.
In Xiguan Community of Boxing County, neat rows of buildings come into view, surrounded by lush green grass. The roads are well-separated for vehicles and pedestrians, spacious and clean, with complete facilities. Residents greet each other with smiles, fostering a friendly, harmonious neighborhood. Originally Xiguan Village, like other villages, faced development challenges. Now, it presents a renewed image of “strong collectives, wealthy villagers, and beautiful homes.” The most noticeable change is that villagers have happily left their old, generations-old houses and moved into bright, spacious new apartments.
So far, the three-year urban renewal action in Boxing County has achieved significant results. The urban landscape has transformed dramatically, and public satisfaction continues to rise, gradually unfolding a modernized picture of a “strong, rich, beautiful” Boxing.
