Markets Advance Over Upbeat Jobs Report

An upbeat jobs report lifted the markets higher during the midday with Dow gaining 85 points to 10,405. Nasdaq climbed 21 points to 2221.

On the upside

Ulta Salon (Nasdaq: ULTA) reported higher second quarter earnings and revenue that beat analyst expectations.

H&R Block (NYSE: HRB) narrowed first quarter losses more than expected.

An upbeat jobs report lifted shares of online job employment Monster Worldwide (NYSE: MWW).

On the downside

Falling gold prices weighed down shares of Goldcorp (NYSE: GG) and Eldorado Gold (NYSE: EGO).

SeaChange (Nasdaq: SEAC) reversed year ago losses but the results fell short of expectations and the company forecast disappointing current quarter results.

Campbell Soup (NYSE: CPB) reported higher fourth quarter earnings but soup sales fell.

In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of nearly 5 to 2 on the NYSE and by nearly 2 to 1 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks gained 5 points to 637.
