California American Water Sponsors Water Wise Garden for Rosemead Chamber of Commerce

LOS ANGELES, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- California American Water announced today that is has completed the design and installation of a water conservation garden at the Rosemead Chamber of Commerce located at 3953 Muscatel Avenue, Rosemead, CA 91770.  The completed demonstration garden includes a number of beautiful low-water-use plants and shrubs that require less irrigation and maintenance compared to a traditional lawn.

"This wonderful project will help teach residents about the importance of local water supplies," said Jose Hinojos, Rosemead Chamber of Commerce president.  "I want to thank California American Water for its leadership and support of the Chamber.  Landscaping with low-water-using, California-friendly plants is an example of how residents can easily save our most precious resource."

Thyda Tith, California American Water's conservation specialist, designed the garden.  "Drought tolerant landscaping is a practical and easy way to enjoy plants that will thrive in your garden with less maintenance and watering," Tith said.  "A myth persists that water conservation gardens are stark and unappealing.  This is not true.  The plants selected for the Chamber garden showcase the variety of plant colors and textures available for low-water gardening."

"Up to 60 percent of all residential water is used on outdoor irrigation throughout the state," said Garry Hofer, California American Water's Los Angeles operations manager.  "This water-wise garden, located in a high-visibility area near city hall and the public library, is a template for our customers on how to reduce their water use.  I encourage people to stop by and take a look, and hope they will consider a California-friendly garden in lieu of a large lawn."
