New Snap-On Load Detector from API Technologies Designed for Low Current Sensing Applications

ORLANDO, Fla., July 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- API Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ: ATNY), a leading provider of high performance RF/microwave, power, and security solutions for critical and high-reliability applications, now offers the LD-50, a magnetic, snap-on load detector for mounting on pre-wired systems that does not disrupt existing connections.

The LD-50 is a high sensitivity current transformer specifically designed for applications where low current is monitored. A primary winding is supplied to increase sensitivity of the transformer.

Available in pre-assembled or unassembled versions, the LD-50 simply snaps over existing wiring.  Ideal for monitoring relays and lamps, hi/low current limits, instrumentation as well as solid state switchgear and motor control, this new load detector is an excellent low cost option for energy management and automation control.

Larry Howanitz, senior vice president and business unit manager of API Technologies, commented, "These highly reliable devices offer an impressive combination of features that give users better, more accurate results.  Because they simply snap on to existing wires, they're extremely easy to incorporate into a system for enhanced monitoring and measuring of electrical current."

Broadband frequency response of the LD-50 ranges from 30 Hz to 15 kHz.  The easy-to-install transformer measures continuous currents up to 40 A RMS, intermittent currents up to 120 A, and linear output to within 3% of input ranging from 2 A to 20 A.
