Pearl Cohen Launches Software Copyright Protection Group

NEW YORK, Sept. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The law firm of Pearl Cohen Zedek Latzer Baratz LLP has formed a dedicated Software Copyright Protection Group that will be led by Mitchell Shelowitz, a partner with over 22 years experience representing clients in business and technology matters.

Comprising a multi-disciplinary team of attorneys with extensive experience in protecting software, the Software Copyright Protection Group will provide maximum protection to clients' core software assets by applying their expertise in U.S. copyright law, trade secrets, rights and license agreements and enforcement in the U.S. Federal Courts.

"Copyright protection for software code is an increasingly important, yet underutilized, method to protect software from copying and misuse," said Shelowitz. "Our new group will offer an important additional layer of protection to companies that invest significant financial and human resources to develop unique and innovative software solutions."

"Because of the recent Supreme Court decision in Alice Corp. v. CLS Bank International, in which the Court appears to have chipped away at the patentability of certain software functionalities, the importance of copyright protection for software programs cannot be overstated," said Guy Yonay, a senior partner in the firm's patent litigation group.

Zeev Pearl, the firm's managing partner, said: "We are pleased to launch this new group to ensure that our clients have access to a variety of legal means to protect their most valuable intellectual property."
