CADA Drivers Stand Strong as Part of Local Day of Protest

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The California App-Based Drivers Association (CADA), a non-profit dedicated to protecting fairness and transparency in the mobile phone application car service industry has issued a call to action to drivers for a global protest on October 22, 2014 at 12:00 pm, Pacific Standard Time

CADA, which is affiliated with the International Brotherhood of the Teamsters Local 986, is mobilizing UBER drivers around the United States, and in the United Kingdom to turn off their smart phone applications, and demonstrate in front of local UBER offices in a show of solidarity.

CADA seeks to bring consumer, public and governmental awareness to problems that exist within the context of working within transportation network companies, such as UBER Technologies.

In Los Angeles, UBERX drivers have suffered a fare reduction from $2.40 cents per mile in December 2013, to a current fare of $1.10 per mile, with a base fare reduction from $4.00 per ride, to $0.80 per ride.  During this period, however, UBER has increased the commission on UBERX rides from 5% to 25%.

Joseph De Wolf Sandoval, Leadership Council member of CADA insists that protesters are not anti-technology, nor are they unprofessional as often portrayed by UBER.  Rather, they are "serious drivers who are frustrated with unilateral actions taken by UBER that adversely effect the quality of their work environment and lives."  De Wolf Sandoval states:  "UBER's repeated fare reductions, coupled with their increased take on each ride, has put the drivers in a position where they often have to work dangerous hours, in violation of accepted governmental agency norms, in order to make a livable wage."

The Los Angeles protest is presently scheduled for October 22, 2014 at 12:00 pm, Pacific Standard Time in front of the UBER offices at 1437, 7th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401.
