CARNEGIE, Pa., Nov. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As we've recently felt the chill of cold winter weather throughout the region, it's more important than ever to remember that there are many of our friends and neighbors in need of assistance at this time of year.   An ever-increasing number of families, for various reasons, are finding themselves in need of The Salvation Army and WTAE's Project Bundle-Up program to ensure that their children have the appropriate winter outerwear for the cold winter season.  There are also many local senior citizens in need of this type of assistance.

Pittsburgh Area Wendy's® are currently helping to raise not only community awareness of human needs, but to help generate critical funds to operate the Project Bundle-Up program for 2014-2015.  Currently, and throughout the entire month of November, more than 55 participating Wendy's®  Restaurants are providing their customers with the opportunity to purchase "Hang a Coat" tags for $1 each to display at the restaurants, and are thanking those who donate with a free Jr. Frosty®.  Thus far, The Salvation Army is encouraged greatly by the public's support of this promotion and is hopeful that even more customers will visit their local Wendy's® from now until the end of the month and donate to this worthy cause.

Funds generated through this partnership between Wendy's, The Salvation Army and WTAE's Project Bundle-Up will provide the foundation of support needed to help individuals and families get back on their feet during a time when they are in the most need.  Public support will help keep countless children and seniors warm and healthy throughout the year.

For 28 years, WTAE Project Bundle-Up has played a critical role in providing new winter outerwear for needy children and seniors across Western Pennsylvania.  Founded in 1986 by WTAE-TV Channel 4 and The Salvation Army, Project Bundle-Up has raised more than $12.3 million and served more than 242,000 needy kids and seniors with new winter outerwear.  This new partnership is one of the many ways that WTAE Project Bundle-Up raises funds to provide personal shopping trips for thousands of deserving individuals each year.

Both a church and a social service organization, The Salvation Army began in London, England in 1865.  Today, it provides critical services in 126 countries worldwide.  The 28-county Western Pennsylvania Division serves thousands of needy families through a wide variety of support services.  To learn more about The Salvation Army in Western Pennsylvania, log onto www.salvationarmy-wpa.org, twitter.com/SalArmyPGH or Facebook.com/SalvationArmyWesternPA.  The Salvation Army … Doing the most good . . . for the most people . . . in the most need.
