API Announces 6th Annual Master Psychopharmacology Conference: Master Consultations to Answer Psychiatrists' "Burning Questions"

OAK BROOK, Ill., Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- American Physician Institute (API) executive director Dr. Jack Krasuski, MD, announced today that API's 6th Annual Master Psychopharmacology Conference (MPC) will take place March 5-8, 2015 at Disney's BoardWalk Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. This year's conference brings a new, sharper focus on providing answers to psychiatrists' "burning questions" and clinical conundrums -- as well as the chance for one attendee to win a brand-new 2015 Fiat® Convertible by raffle.

Launched in 2010, MPC is attended by hundreds of psychiatrists each year and is known for its focus on providing practical solutions to the most stress-inducing challenges that arise in day-to-day clinical work — by presenting clear and definitive psychiatric treatment.

During the Three-Day Conference from March 6-8, a team of nationally recognized experts guide attendees through a series of practical interactive sessions — empowering psychiatrists to make prescribing decisions with confidence and clarity. In addition to the Three-Day Conference, an optional pre-conference One-Day Fellowship on Addiction and Pain Medicine is available to attendees on March 5. Why focus on Addition and Pain Medicine for the fellowship?

According to Dr. Jack Krasuski, substance use disorders occur at high rates in the general population. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA's) National Survey on Drug Use and Health, reports that 23.5 million persons in the United States needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol abuse problem in 2009. This represented close to 10% of all people ages 12 years and older. Among persons in psychiatric treatment, the rate of a substance use disorder is approximately double. Thus, even general psychiatrists who do not specialize in addiction treatment need to achieve competence in understanding the special needs of their many patients who have a past or present substance use disorder.  Additionally, the focus on Pain Medicine for psychiatrists reflects the fact that the use, abuse, and overdose deaths from prescription opioid medications have increased dramatically in the last 15 years. Yet many psychiatrists are not prepared to adequately assess or manage patients with an opioid addiction.

This year's edition of MPC has been rebuilt and refocused as "master consultations", that is, rather than presenting lectures in the usual way, faculty members start by presenting a clinically relevant and challenging question, often one submitted by an audience member, and then providing their recommendations on how to navigate through this conundrum. Key topics at the conference include "Bipolar and Depressive Disorders" to "Women's Mental Health" to "Legal and Other Practice-Related Issues," among others.  What does this new approach utilizing "master consultations" mean to the psychiatrist attending? It means that the audience receives clinically relevant and actionable solutions to common clinical challenges, a type of learning that will more directly lead to improvement in patient management.

Additionally, psychiatrists who attend the conference have the opportunity to earn up to 32 AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credit(s)™ including 8 Self-Assessment Credits.

The conference will also be recorded and available in a convenient online format after the event has taken place. This online distance learning version is available to live conference attendees as well as for separate purchase by psychiatrists not able to attend the live conference.

But this year's MPC isn't all business.  Attendees will be entered into a drawing to win a 2015 Fiat Convertible — which will be given away during a raffle held at the "Ice Breaker Reception" on the second day of the Three-Day Conference, along with other prizes.

Attendees may register online by visiting http://www.masterpsych.com/master-psychopharmacology-conference-2015.html, or calling 877-225-8384. Regular tuition is $997 for the Core Conference or $1,294 for the full event including the One-Day Fellowship. But note that those who register by February 15, 2015 can take advantage of special early bird pricing to save $200 on the cost of their tuition.
