PlasticsToday shifts editorial leadership, affirms distinct content direction

SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Norbert Sparrow, who has covered medical device manufacturing and medical plastics for many years, is promoted to editor in chief. Kari Embree, an online journalist with rich packaging experience, is the new managing editor. Both report into Shana Leonard, a digital journalism leader.

Veteran industry reporters Clare Goldsberry, Stephen Moore, and Karen Laird continue their national and international coverage.

"We built a deep team to support what makes PlasticsToday unique," comments Pamela L. Moore, SVP of Content & Strategy for UBM Canon, which produces the brand. "Our audience loves original commentary, think pieces, and technical insights. We see that in traffic analysis and newsletter data. That distinctive content and digital data powers our ability to connect suppliers and customers, online and at our live PLASTEC, Plast-Ex and Expoplast events. We need smart, connected people to make it happen."

"The premier digital media community for plastics professionals, PlasticsToday is dedicated to delivering targeted end market content to the plastics industry," says brand director John Guadagno. "Our commitment is evidenced by our unique knowledge of and attention to digital media as well as our editors' years of direct experience covering vertical end market communities in the plastics industry."

Sparrow joined the PlasticsToday editorial staff in November 2013 as senior editor and Medical Channel reporter. Prior to that, he served as editor in chief of UBM Canon's portfolio of medical manufacturing publications and websites for the European and Asia/Pacific markets for more than 15 years. He holds a master's degree in journalism from the Centre universitaire d'enseignement du journalisme in Strasbourg, France.

Previously, Embree was senior digital content editor at Packaging Digest, also a UBM Canon brand, where she oversaw the development of content for a variety of interactive channels serving the packaging community. In addition to serving as managing editor, Embree will oversee the PlasticsToday Packaging Channel.

The PlasticsToday website and e-newsletters, along with the associated PLASTEC, Plast-Ex and Expoplast events and conferences, provide multiple, trusted points of engagement for the entire plastics processing community.
