Rentrak Cross-Platform Entertainment Rankings - Oct. 28, 2015

PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform entertainment rankings for Oct. 28, 2015.

It was another out-of-this-world global performance for Fox's "The Martian" this past weekend as it added another $45.9 million, bringing its total worldwide tally to within striking distance of $400 million. Sony's "Hotel Transylvania 2" also continued to be an audience favorite as it scared up another $37.7 million with $315.8 million to-date across the world.

In North American action, an incredibly crowded marketplace made for a tough weekend for newcomers and expanding movies alike this past weekend. Fox's acclaimed "The Martian" returned to the top spot with $15.7 million in its fourth weekend. Great word-of-mouth and awards season buzz continued to propel the Ridley Scott directed movie starring Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain. Sony's "Goosebumps," starring Jack Black, took second place in its second weekend, adding another $15.5 million for a total to-date of $43.7 million

Disney's "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" had another great week topping both Rentrak's digital purchases and rentals chart and DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals chart. 

Warner Bros.' "San Andreas" had a seismic debut and likewise led the way on two of our small screen charts including DVD and Blu-Ray Disc sales and also our Movies on Demand chart, showing that Dwayne Johnson is a force to be reckoned with on big and small screens alike.

In further news from our digital purchases and rentals chart, Sony's "Pixels," starring Adam Sandler, debuted strong its first week of release, landing in the number four position. The Orchard's film, "Cartel Land," now in its second week of release, climbed up the charts into the number ten spot.

On our top viewer engagement chart for broadcast telecasts, Fox's acclaimed "Empire" took the top spot again this week, while CBS's "NCIS: New Orleans" and also their long running favorite, the original "NCIS," took second and third respectively.

Leading the way on our top viewer engagement chart for cable telecasts, AMC's "The Walking Dead" took first place followed by the Hallmark movie "Harvest Moon" and Lifetime's "Project Runway" in the second and third positions.

Finally, on our combined social media and digital engagement chart for viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts, the top blind audition YouTube video for NBC's "The Voice" this week was Amy Vachal: "Dream a Little Dream of Me."  This was followed by AMC's "The Walking Dead" that posted a reminder of the Season 6 premiere on Facebook and ESPNWS's "SportsCenter" post of an Instagram photo of George H.W. and George W. Bush throwing out first pitches in Texas.
