Bankers Healthcare Group Supports The International Diabetes Federation "Life For A Child" Program

DAVIE, Fla., Nov. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Bankers Healthcare Group, the leading provider of financial solutions for healthcare professionals, recently participated in World Diabetes Day, raising money for the International Diabetes Federation Life for a Child program. This support program helps diabetic children in developing countries gain access to life-saving clinical care, medical equipment, supplies and diabetes education.

As part of its diabetes awareness campaign, Bankers Healthcare Group adopted the World Diabetes Day blue circle logo, which signifies the unity of the global diabetes community.

Bankers Healthcare Group observed World Diabetes Day by encouraging its employees to take advantage of their workout break, one of BHG's employee benefits. As regular exercise is an essential part of preventing and managing diabetes, the company pledged to donate $5 to the IDF for each individual that used the company's onsite gym on Friday, November 13. Together, BHG and its employees donated more than $400 to the Life for a Child program.

The IDF estimates that there are over 497,000 children worldwide with type 1 diabetes and a similar number of cases among youth from 15 to 25 years old. Type 2 cases are also on the rise among children and adolescents across the globe.

As many as 100,000 of these diabetic children and youth are in urgent need of assistance, as lack of access to proper care or insulin sadly remains a common cause of death. Some children die undiagnosed; others that are newly diagnosed may have a life expectancy of less than one year.

In 1991, the IDF and the World Health Organization named November 14 World Diabetes Day, which also acts as a year-round campaign to unite the global diabetes community, increase awareness and support advocacy on an international scale.

BHG's fundraising event was part of the company's two-month long diabetes awareness campaign that ran through November, American Diabetes Month®. In October, each of the company's three offices in Davie, Florida, Syracuse, New York and New York City joined a local Step Out: Walk To Stop Diabetes® and raised over $3,800 for the American Diabetes Association. The ADA is one of the over 230 national diabetes associations in 170 countries and territories represented by the IDF.
