Syracuse University Partners with 2U to Launch Engineering@Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Feb. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Syracuse University and 2U, Inc. (NASDAQ: TWOU), today announced a partnership to launch Engineering@Syracuse which will include three online degrees, including the Master of Science in Computer Engineering, the Master of Science in Computer Science, and the Master of Science in Cybersecurity. The three degrees will be housed within the Syracuse University College of Engineering and Computer Science.

The College of Engineering and Computer Science joins the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, and the School of Information Studies as the fourth school at Syracuse University offering online degrees through 2U.

The new partnership will enhance the College of Engineering and Computer Science's existing online graduate degrees in computer engineering and computer science by combining 2U's advanced learning platform and technology-enabled services with the College's innovative, real-world curriculum and award-winning faculty, who are at the forefront of research and discovery in areas including artificial intelligence, data mining methodologies in cybersecurity, assured systems that degrade in the face of attack and failure, and the intersection of computational complexity, formal methods, and programming language semantics.  The partnership will also launch a new online graduate degree in cybersecurity.

"At Syracuse, we believe in education that transcends traditional classroom learning. That's why the College of Engineering and Computer Science has created dynamic online programs to allow students around the world to earn degrees from Syracuse while continuing to work in their careers," said Teresa A. Dahlberg, dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. "We have chosen to make this change and partner with 2U because of 2U's unique comprehensive operating infrastructure and demonstrated ability to support universities in delivering the highest quality online degrees. This partnership will strengthen our ability to offer invaluable opportunities for students and will help us further our mission of developing computer science experts, leaders and innovators."

"We are honored that the College of Engineering and Computer Science has entrusted us to deliver and support its online degrees," said Andrew Hermalyn, 2U executive vice president and regional general manager.  "These are exciting new degrees for 2U and represent our entry into the engineering vertical. We look forward to growing our relationship with Syracuse University and supporting its innovative spirit."

The three degree offerings will feature live face-to-face online classes taught by College of Engineering and Computer Science professors, dynamic course content, and real-world learning experiences. Engineering@Syracuse students must meet the same academic criteria as students in the on-campus degrees.

Syracuse will begin accepting applications for the MS in Computer Engineering, the MS in Computer Science and the MS in Cybersecurity degrees at Engineering@Syracuse in May 2016 for the first cohort, which will begin classes in October 2016.  For more information on Engineering@Syracuse please visit 2u.com/about/partners/syracuse-engineering/.
