City Year Joins Comcast NBCUniversal for 15th Annual Comcast Cares Day

BOSTON, April 30, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Saturday, April 30th, City Year will once again join forces with Comcast NBCUniversal for the 15th annual Comcast Cares Day.  The event is Comcast NBCUniversal's celebration of its year-round commitment to service and has grown into the nation's largest single-day corporate volunteer effort.  Nearly 1,000 City Year AmeriCorps members will participate in Comcast Cares Day projects in 15 cities, including Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Jacksonville, Little Rock, Los Angeles, Miami, New Hampshire, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Sacramento, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.

Projects taking place this Saturday include:

  • Carter T. Woodson Elementary School in Chicago, Ill., where nearly 300 volunteers will enhance classroom and hallway spaces with murals, landscape outdoor spaces, construct new bookshelves and planter boxes, and paint interactive playground graphics.
  • P.S./M.S. 149 Sojourner Truth Middle School in New York, N.Y., where nearly 300 volunteers will create murals, clear out underutilized classrooms to create additional learning space, and create healthy eating kits.
  • Watson T. Comly School in Philadelphia, Pa., where nearly 200 volunteers will help to beautify the school with a variety of indoor and outdoor projects, including cleaning, landscaping, painting, and organizing library materials. 
  • Jean Ribault Middle School in Jacksonville, Fla., where nearly 400 volunteers will be painting, washing windows, landscaping, cleaning, and gardening.

Earlier this year, City Year and Comcast NBCUniversal entered into a three-year partnership renewal agreement valued at $11.2 million in cash and in-kind support.  A long-term, dedicated partner since 2001, Comcast NBCUniversal to date has donated more than $85 million in cash and in-kind support to City Year.
