TORONTO, May 26, 2017 /CNW/ - Following the final Elimination Challenge of the season, MASTERCHEF CANADA judges Michael Bonacini, Alvin Leung, and Claudio Aprile revealed that Barrie McConachie, an employee relations consultant from Vancouver, B.C., would be the next home cook eliminated from the competition in this week's episode. On the Season 4 finale of MASTERCHEF CANADA next Thursday, June 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO,  the final two home cooks, Trevor Connie, a plumber/gas fitter from Edmonton, Alta., and Thea VanHerwaarden, a broker from Vancouver, B.C. go head-to-head with the hope of winning $100,000 and the life-changing title of MASTERCHEF CANADA.

On this week's episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, the final three home cooks, Barrie McConachie, Trevor Connie, and Thea VanHerwaarden battle it out for a spot in the MASTERCHEF CANADA finale. The home cooks arrived to find the MASTERCHEF CANADA Kitchen transformed into a French patisserie as they were tasked with filling individual display cases with five delectable sweets. Joining the judges to sample their wares were 45 passionate pastry experts and young pastry eaters.

Trevor's pastry offerings included raspberry cheesecake, coffee liqueur crème brûlée, and pink peppercorn chocolate truffles. Barrie's selections featured raspberry shortcake, homemade chocolate bars, and tarragon crème with passion fruit. Thea's creations included lemon lavender cake, chocolate cayenne tarts, pistachio cream tarts, and Earl Grey tea crème puffs. With the feedback from the 45 guests, the judges named Barrie the winner and gave him a valuable advantage in the Elimination Challenge.

In the Elimination Challenge that followed, the home cooks were assigned one luxury Canadian protein – Wagyu beef, Nagano pork, or Chantecler chicken – and had to create a dish using it three different ways. As an advantage for having the winning patisseries, the judges announced that Barrie would get to assign each home cook their protein. After an intense hour, and despite his advantage at the start of the Elimination Challenge, Barrie's big risk to poach all three of his Wagyu beef cuts in olive oil left the beef borderline raw and the judges sent him home from the competition.

On the Season 4 finale of MASTERCHEF CANADA, "Season 4 Finale" (Thursday, June 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT), the final two home cooks go head-to-head for the nation's biggest culinary prize, with only three uninterrupted hours to create an unforgettable three-course meal. As the clock counts down, the two remaining competitors vie for the grand prize of $100,000 and the sought after MASTERCHEF CANADA title.

The final two home cooks vying for the title of MASTERCHEF CANADA and the $100,000 cash prize are:

• Thea VanHerwaarden, a broker, from Vancouver, B.C.
• Trevor Connie, a plumber/gas fitter, from Edmonton, Alta.
