The Kingsford Charcoal plant, which has operated since 1958, employs 110 people and produces nearly 125,000 tons of charcoal each year. The Boston Consulting Group estimates that Walmart's initiative will create 1 million new American jobs, including direct manufacturing job growth of approximately 250,000 and indirect job growth of approximately 750,000 in the support and service sectors.

"The idea of gathering friends and family and firing up a charcoal grill has been a fixture in American life since Kingsford Charcoal first made it possible nearly 100 years ago," said Matt Gregory, general manager of Kingsford Charcoal.  "Through all that time, we've fueled this American pastime with American labor, processing and packaging our charcoal in small communities throughout America, including Parsons. We are proud of our American roots, our American workers and our partnership with Walmart to increase American manufacturing."

"Our customers have told us that second to price, where products are made influences their purchase decisions," said Cindi Marsiglio, vice president, U.S. manufacturing for Walmart. "We are focused on buying great quality products that create jobs in communities across the U.S. It makes sense for our customers, our communities and our company."

"I'm happy to celebrate Kingsford Charcoal's long term presence and continued investment in Parsons," said Dorothy Judy, mayor of Parsons. "And I'd like to commend Walmart for their intention to help boost American job creation and U.S. manufacturing through buying an additional $250 billion in products that support American communities."
