Food 4 Less/Foods Co Announces Holiday Hunger Fundraising Program

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its Zero Hunger | Zero Waste commitment, Food 4 Less/Foods Co is inviting customers to help hungry families by supporting local food banks this holiday season.

Food 4 Less and Foods Co stores in Califiornia and the greater Chicago area are collecting donations at their check stands to support local food banks.

Beginning November 8, 2017 and continuing through February 3, 2018, Food 4 Less/Foods Co customers and associates may support local food banks by donating spare change in collection canisters located at the check stands in their neighborhood Food 4 Less stores in Southern California and the greater Chicago area, and at Foods Co supermarkets in Central and Northern California.

All donations will be distributed to Feeding America-affiliated food banks and hunger relief organizations in the communities served by Food 4 Less and Foods Co stores. These important funds will help provide food banks the products they need to feed the hungry during the holidays and throughout the year.

"Assisting people who need help during the holidays and throughout the year is a priority at Food 4 Less/Foods Co," said Bryan Kaltenbach, president of Food 4 Less/Foods Co. "This checkstand fundraising campaign provides an opportunity for our customers and associates to drive funds to local food banks to help hungry families."

Food banks benefiting from this year's holiday hunger fundraising campaign include: Central Valley Food Bank (Fresno), Feeding America San Diego, FIND Food Bank (Indio), Food Share (Oxnard), Greater Chicago Food Depository, Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, San Francisco Foodbank, Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County and Second Harvest Food Bank Serving Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

Food 4 Less' ongoing commitment to help eliminate hunger also includes its company-wide Perishables Donations Partnership (PDP) program. The program allows fresh, wholesome food such as meat, produce and dairy products to be donated directly from Food 4 Less and Foods Co stores to local food banks that are able to safely handle perishable foods.

Through the PDP program, Food 4 Less and Foods Co stores have donated more than 2 million pounds of perishable foods to food banks this year. This represents more than 1.7 million meals for hungry families

Food 4 Less/Foods Co's holiday hunger fundraising and PDP programs are part of the supermarket company's Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative. This bold initiative seeks to end hunger in the communities served by Food 4 Less supermarkets in Southern California and the greater Chicago area, and Foods Co stores in Central and Northern California while also eliminating waste across the company by 2025.
