The Hot Ticket Brings Broadway to the Multiplexes With State-of-the-Art Digital Presentations of RENT: FILMED LIVE ON BROADWAY

CULVER CITY, Calif., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- When "RENT," Broadway's landmark musical, marks the end of an era and closes its historic run, Sony Pictures Releasing's new special programming division The Hot Ticket will be there. For the first time ever, audiences across the country who are unable to attend a Broadway show will be able to see this once-in-a-lifetime event as The Hot Ticket presents the closing of "RENT" in select movie theaters with special limited engagement performances September 24th, 25th, 27th, and 28th.

Commenting on the announcement, Rory Bruer, president of Sony Pictures Releasing, said, "This is the first time that a Broadway show has been available in movie theaters across the U.S. and Canada, and I can't think of a better occasion than the closing of 'RENT.' It's the show that defined Broadway for a generation and now that it's ending its long run, The Hot Ticket presentation is a perfect way for the show to celebrate with its many fans -- no matter where they live."

The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical will end its 12-year run on Broadway on Sunday, September 7th and the Academy Award(R) winning company @radical.media will be there to capture the emotional and poignant evening. Utilizing the latest in High-Definition video and digital audio technology, the cinecast of RENT, directed by Michael Warren, will take the audience on an enhanced journey through the music, lyrics, and images of this storied piece of live entertainment. The audience will experience this production like never before -- not only from the best seats in the Nederlander Theatre, but from the stage and wings, where cameras will capture the raw emotion of the cast's performance.

"As groundbreaking as RENT was in its Broadway debut, it is a privilege for us to be part of bringing it in an innovative way to the screen." said @radical.media CEO Jon Kamen. "We're excited to explore an amazing opportunity for live theater and capture the minds and imaginations of cinema- goers across the country. Perhaps it's ironic that RENT will be as groundbreaking again when it closes."

The final production of RENT features Will Chase as Roger, Adam Kantor as Mark, Michael McElroy as Tom, Rodney Hicks as Benjamin, Tracie Thoms as Joanne, Justin Johnston as Angel, Renee Elise Goldsberry as Mimi, and Eden Espinoza as Maureen. Michael Grief, who stage directed the original production of RENT, returns to stage-direct the final production.

A first-class production team, including the award-winning Cinematographer Declan Quinn (Leaving Las Vegas, Monsoon Wedding) and recent Grammy Award- winning Music Producer Giles Martin (Cirque du Soleil's Love) has been assembled to heighten the visual and audio elements of the presentation. In collaboration with All Mobile Video, Outpost Digital, Sound One, and the new Deluxe facility in New York, this cinecast will create a one-of-a-kind visceral experience for the audience.

Anthony Rapp, an original cast member of "RENT," added, "For the many 'RENT' fans across the country who love the show but never got to see it on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre, it's great that the cinecast will get them as close as possible to that magical experience without actually being there. I'm very happy that such a momentous occasion as the final Broadway performance will be captured forever."
