Urbi Will Serve Low-Income Workers in Mazatlan

MAZATLAN, Mexico, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- With the development of low-income housing, the leading housing developer in Mexico is setting in motion the operation of its strategic business unit in the port of Mazatlan, which will undertake a project of more than 2,700 housing units over the next 3 years focused on the low-income sector, which is estimated to spur the creation of more than 21,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.

To this regard, Francisco Cota, an Urbi City License Manager Partner in Mazatlan, commented: "The opportunity for Urbi is in meeting the need for low-income housing of an enormous segment of the market made up not only of workers from the important fishing industry, but also of workers from the industrial and agricultural sectors, with Mazatlan making a major contribution to the productive activity of Sinaloa state -- so much so that it is called the food industry's most strategic corridor in North America."

"Mazatlan is exhibiting sustained economic growth because of the substantial share its fishing industry has in the national market, allowing it to contribute 60% of the tuna caught in Mexico; of every 10 cans of tuna consumed in Mexico, 7 are produced in Mazatlan," Cota added.

The startup of these operations in Mazatlan is part of fulfilling the company's 2007-2011 Strategic Growth Plan, which in recent years has implemented pilot programs for the public in land development and the detection of business opportunities in underserved markets.

Jorge Abel Lopez, Municipal President of Mazatlan, for his part, said, "Welcome to productive investment that creates jobs in Mazatlan. Urbi is an important and prestigious company that will help create new sources of employment by building housing intended for low-income families along with programs and arrangements for affordable financing."

Netzahualcoyotl Perez, Urbi's Executive Director, also pointed out, "With these new developments, Urbi will offer a housing supply with all the benefits of our "VidaResidencial" concept to that large segment of workers with modest means who have not had the opportunity to avail themselves of decent housing."
